Today, i heard a bad news about mochi media being shut down, well i use to own a small arcarde site 3 years back and i have earned few pay checks from them too. What i didn't liked about this closure was that they should have given prior notice to the publishers at least this way they can be ready for what is coming ahead.
Mochi Media Alternatives
Just like mochi media you have a business too if you think what now after mochi media then don't worry there are some doors still open but i don't find much alternative tough other than FGL Ads i haven't tried on my website yet, apart from that you can use cpmstar although it's can't be called as a true alternative because it's a cpm based ad network dedicated for games but you do get good cpm out of it because of their relevant ads.
Is Flash Games Market Is Dead?
The shut down of mochi media has really given a sharp blow on flash games publishers mochi media was a leader in flash game monetization it has total sum of 15,000 games and with more than 40,000 publishers. With so much strong position but still struggling for revenues. The problem with flash games are most of them are reharshed if you look at the games many of them are the just copy of what you have played before but with just some few tweeks and changes. If tower defense games goes well you will find lots of games like them after few weeks. The market of flash games is loaded with more and more games each day and when somethings gets larger on quantity it always gets lower on quality, that's what happened with mochi media.
So, can we say flash market is dead? i don't believe "dead" can be a right word for describing condition of flash game market yeah the market has declined comparing to previous years but i don't think it's dead when there will be enthusiastic developers and audience for casual games flash games will keep shining after all creativity never dies.
Hill Climb Racing |
Things were not that bad before mobile gaming started booming flash market declined with rapid pace when you look at mobile games they are just casual games but when you play in a mobile device it becomes much more interesting flash games on other hand is a pc based games and on pc the same games look odd to play take a example of FingerSoft's hill climbing you have already played such game on miniclip but still the experience of playing on a mobile device is much more entertaining.
For Game Developers
If you were earning a passive income from mochi media then this news might be tough to handle but that doesn't mean you should stop developing games but there are sites like kongregate, notdoppler, miniclip and many other who provide good passive income if you submit games to them they have their own advertising network but their pay rate is might vary so do some research before joining.
Caution For Arcade Publishers
If your games were hosted on mochi media servers download those games and move them to your own host because games would no longer going to work.
