If you are distributing widgets as a part of your seo strategy to get inbound links you might get into trouble google has updated their webmaster guidelines page recently according to their new guidelines you can't use keyword optimized anchor text anymore.
A webmaster asked question that his site share widgets and info graphics which contains embeded links to their website should they add nofollow in those links?
Matt cutts the head of google web spam team has recently stated that these links doesn't have any editorial weight as people don't usually notice those links on widgets/infographics as they just copy paste the code. Same with online counter providing sites which usually give away free counters with a link back to their own page.
New Updated:
Matt suggested that webmaster should add rel="nofollow" to these links and avoid highly optimize anchor text on them.
Optimized Anchor Text?? It means if you use your branded anchor text like yourcompany.com it will be fine rather then putting something like "web hosting discount" also some general anchor text like "click here", or "go to the website" can be good alternative option as in this case you are not spamming actually many widget developers develop these widgets for generating traffic.
Matts also pointed out an interesting fact that these widget links doesn't contain much weight due to it's easy to get nature so blog post links still tops the chart because of their editorial value behind them.
